I was so pleased when we arrived at Chapel Mead to find a lovely, clean property.
The garden is fantastic and the view across the river is stunning. At the end of the garden, safely locked behind two gates, is a spiral staircase leading to a private cove. Our teenage children loved it! When the tide was out there was a cave to explore, rock pools and a place to lie in the sun. When the tide was high it was great for swimming.
The upstairs bedrooms were spacious and airy and all of them had views of the river. In particular the room with the balcony was lovely as it was a great place to read and catch the sun. There was good wifi in all rooms which was a plus.
I'd recommend taking your own portable bbq, lots of towels (there is a washing machine but not a dryer), tea towels, oven gloves, a sun lounger and binoculars. I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find fault with the place but our overall impression was that it was a clean, spacious and well-equipped place in a great location.
The road down to the property is incredibly narrow, as are all the streets in Polruan, so it might be worth walking down first so that you know where you are going. Look for two large wooden gates on the left. There is room to do a three point turn in the parking area on the property which is useful as once you have come down the hill it is very difficult to reverse up.
At the moment, due to the pandemic, it is worth booking pubs and restaurants in advance. The Lugger, in Polruan, was great and you can book online beforehand to sit in or takeaway. Jam First does lovely takeaway sandwiches and The Russel Inn takeaway food and beer.
We went on a boat trip with Fowey River Trips which took in all the sights and was well worth £8 a head. The foot ferry runs regularly to Fowey but it was nice to get back to the calm of Polruan.
If you have any questions we found Tom, from Cornish Horizons, to be very helpful.

Most enjoyable and relaxing holiday in a beautiful house in a stunning location. Leaving the car behind and catching the foot ferry over to Fowey daily was fun as was visiting Mevagissey on the ferry. You never tire of watching the boats coming and going and we even saw a cruise liner come in, which was a great site. Plus we managed to catch out breakfast off the rocks nearby on a couple of occasions. And if you enjoy walking the walk to Lantic bay and beyond is stunning.

Chapel Mead is a superb property which brings us back year after year. It cannot be beaten for location. The house is comfortable with thoughtful touches provided by the family who own it, making the holiday feel like a real home from home. Really comfortable beds, excellent showers, within walking distance of everything, including the most beautiful coastal walks and the restaurants, shops and coffee shops in Fowey. We have been home for a week and I am already missing Polruan, Fowey and Chapel Mead. Can't wait to get back.
